WordPress care, fixes and development

I help keep WordPress websites and shops running and growing: updates, backups, bug fixes, optimisation and new features. A separate paid service billed as a monthly plan or hourly.

WordPress needs regular care

WordPress, plugins and themes are updated regularly: updates fix bugs, add features and patch security issues. Putting updates off increases the risk of problems, and updating after a long break tends to be harder than regular, small changes.

As part of care I update WordPress, plugins and the theme, check that the site works after changes and take care of backups. When something stops working, I find the cause and fix it. I can also improve loading speed or add new features.

I work both with sites on ready-made themes such as GeneratePress and with larger builds on Bedrock and Sage. I can take over a site built by another developer; I then start by reviewing its code and configuration.

Fixes

Common WordPress problems

1

Critical error or white screen

The site stops displaying, most often after a plugin, theme or PHP version update.

2

Plugin conflicts

Two plugins work fine on their own but together break part of the site or admin.

3

Forms and email

The contact form does not send messages, or they end up in spam.

4

Shop problems

Errors in the WooCommerce cart, payments or orders.

5

Slow loading

The site takes a long time to load, especially on phones, which puts customers off.

6

Outdated installation

An old version of WordPress, plugins or PHP that needs a careful update.

Billing

Monthly plan or hourly billing?

It depends on how important the site is to your business and how often it changes.

A

Monthly plan

  • A fixed scope of work every month.
  • Regular updates and backups without having to remember them.
  • Predictable cost.
  • Good for sites and shops that are an important sales or contact channel.
B

Hourly

  • You pay for the work actually done.
  • Good for one-off fixes and new features.
  • No ongoing commitment.
  • You order updates and backups when you need them.

The two can be combined: a plan for regular work, with new features billed hourly or by quote.

Ground rules

  • The plan scope and work timelines are agreed individually.
  • The service does not include site monitoring.
  • Do not send passwords or access details through the form. You share access securely once the scope is agreed.
Technology

WordPress and WooCommerce from the inside

I build themes from scratch every day, including on Bedrock and Sage, so I work with both simple sites on ready-made themes and with larger builds.

WordPressWooCommerceGeneratePressBedrockSage
  • Sites on ready-made themes, e.g. GeneratePress, and on themes written from scratch.
  • WooCommerce shops with payments and integrations.
  • Bedrock installations with Composer dependencies.

If the site needs bigger changes than ongoing care, I will quote for an extension or a new version.
